Ninja Theory said the creature was a giant troll, and it relied on Ziva Dynamics for the most high-performance, real-time character creation. She must battle these phantasms to continue her quest. She is plagued by her own inner darkness, and in the game it manifests as externally focused visions. She hopes to redeem the soul of Dillion by going to the Norse version of hell, Hellheim, to confront the underworld goddess, Hela. In it, Senua embarks on a journey in the 8th century after Vikings raided her village and killed her love. The 18-month project turned into three years, as the team tried to get everything right. Their interest was in depicting psychosis, the condition where people see things that aren’t real, accurately through Senua’s adventure. They enlisted the help of Wellcome Trust, a health care company in the United Kingdom that gave the studio a grant. Ninja Theory had a very different kind of heroine in mind with Senua. But this is speculation and we remain largely in the dark.In 2019’s teaser video, we saw that Senua in Hellblade II had gone deeper into her persona as violent warrior, as opposed to the quiet and shy person that she started out as in the early part of the game. ![]() There’s also some hints towards Vikings – which would make sense given the time period. ![]() The trailer shows pagan rituals, breathtaking landscapes, limbs hanging from archways and a few battle sequences. Hellblade 2’s story seems to be much darker than its predecessor. ![]() We don’t have too many details on the upcoming sequel, but everything we know about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 can be found below. Hellblade 2 will further navigate the role of Senua’s psychosis in the plot and in its gameplay, but how it will do that remains to be seen. In a world overpopulated by first-person shooters and battle royales, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice stood out for mixing psychological horror with hack and slash gameplay, including a fresh look at ancient mythology and featuring a rare study of mental illness in gaming. ![]()
